For the second straight night, the Rockets were without starting point guard Bob Sura and for the second straight night, they were handed a loss.

The Rockets loss to the Spurs 91-89, their second loss in as many nights. The Rockets are 2-1 against the Spurs this season.

Tony Parker had 22 points, many of which came in a late run which put the Spurs up for good. The Spurs are 24-1 at home this season after their win tonight.

Rod Strickland started in place of the injured Sura, who will be out for up to 2 weeks with a back injury. He scored 4 points early in the 1st, but it didn’t really help that Yao got into foul trouble early. He had 2 and was replaced less than 6 minutes into the game.

Yao put up 20 points, along with McGrady’s 22, Howard’s 16, and Wesley’s 13, but it was not enough to stop the Spurs. The Rockets were leading 63-62 with 4:09 left in the 3rd quarter, but after Manu Ginobili made both of his free throws, the Spurs were given a lead that would stay with them the rest of the game.

The Rockets had defeated the Spurs two previous times at home this season, including the 81-80 win, coming from McGrady’s infamous “13 in 35.”

The final regular season match-up between these two teams comes on March 27 at the SBC Center in San Antonio.
